3D Networks Thailand helps Ramkhamhaeng University
of Thailand to accelerate delivery of its eLearning program with Content
Delivery Network solutions
The Ramkhamhaeng University website was facing stress from its 10,000-
student community accessing the various educational material on its site. To
accelerate delivery and support eLearning, the University invited
3D Networks Thailand, a leading voice and data solutions integrator to design
and deploy Content Delivery Network (CDN) solutions. Using a combination of
products and solutions from the Nortel Networks Alteon portfolio, 3D
Networks helped the University to make its Web content, including Video on
Demand (VoD) more accessible to its students.
CDNs proved the ideal solution for the University, as it had a number of
large graphics and downloadable files including audio/video streaming. “We deployed the 'Reverse Proxy Caching and Transparent
Caching (Web Cache Redirection) solution that distributed the demand for content
among a group of Web and application servers” said Staporn Sambhavapala,
Sales Director, 3D Networks, Thailand. “We compared original server (HTTP
and MMS) before and after the solution was delivered and we could clearly
demonstrate that the load on those servers had considerably reduced and user
experience had improved significantly in terms of speed, response time,
performance and quality.”
The overall objective of the University was to improve end-user performance
and drive cost savings. Significant savings were clearly demonstrated with
CDNs, as the University did not have to invest in substantial higher bandwidth
to support its eLearning program. “We would need 5 times the capacity that we
have and it is not a good idea to spend so much money on the hardware and
bandwidth. CDN is the perfect revenue model for our requirements, as it leaves
our bandwidth free for other applications and we don’t have to invest in the
purchase of a higher bandwidth link right-away,” said Mr. Suchart
Kijthanasaree, IT Director at Ramkhamhaeng University.
Today, students of the University can participate in the eLearning programs
wherever they are, with ease, as the CDN cache placed at the edge of the network
delivers the content on request with high speed.
3D Networks also designed the CDN solution for high scalability to match the
future needs of the University.
3D Networks deployed a combination of Alteon Content Cache (ACC), Alteon
Content Manager (ASM) and Alteon Switched Firewall (ASF) for pre-positioning of
content, content management and security of content.
